BootstrapVC invests in companies that build for the airgapped world. Not because we are chasing a niche, but because the most important systems in the world run in environments where data never leaves and you cannot phone home to make things work. If your software works beautifully in a disconnected environment, it works beautifully everywhere.
We look for founders who treat airgapped as a design philosophy rather than a constraint. Our investments span platform infrastructure, the tools and systems that power how software is built, stored, and communicated, and frontier technologies where the rules are still being written.
Platform Infrastructure
Infrastructure is the kind of thing you only notice when it breaks. We back the pipes, the storage, the runtimes, and the communication layers that everything else depends on, all built from first principles for environments where third party dependencies are a liability.
Sandboxed Development Environments
Sending your code to the cloud to run on someone else’s machines works until your workload needs a GPU, or your compliance team will not let source code leave the building. One team we work with inverted the model. Instead of sending your code to the cloud, they bring the sandbox to your infrastructure. Ephemeral environments that spin up in seconds on your own hardware, whether that is a Mac GPU cluster in your office or bare metal in a colo facility. Fully isolated, instant on, and tear down cleanly when you are done.
Datacenter Operations Marketplace
Data center work still requires physical hands. Racking servers, running cabling, configuring network gear. Coordinating that work across multiple facilities is a mess of phone calls, spreadsheets, and trust. One of our investments is building a marketplace for pre vetted infrastructure technicians. Companies post the job, set their budget, and get matched with qualified on site personnel. The platform handles vetting, scheduling, and payment so operators can focus on the infrastructure instead of the logistics.
Object Storage at Hyperscale
The industry settled on S3 as the standard API for object storage, but the implementations have not caught up. Most are too slow, too locked down by licensing, or too chatty with telemetry to deploy in regulated environments. Our portfolio includes a team building S3 compatible storage from scratch, designed for organizations that treat data sovereignty as a hard requirement. Multi petabyte scale, consistent performance, and a license that will not make your legal team flinch.
Airgapped Communication
Slack is a paperweight on a network with no internet. One company we work with built a communications platform designed for exactly that reality. Terminal native, encrypted, and self contained, with channels and messaging, ticketing and incident management, audio and screen sharing. All running on a server that makes zero outbound connections. It replaces team chat, support portals, and on call tools with one binary that stays dark by design.
Frontier Technologies
The frontier is where the same principles of airgapped by default and owner controlled infrastructure meet markets where the incumbents are coasting on network effects and regulatory capture.
Quantitative Trading
When a microsecond is the difference between a profitable trade and a missed opportunity, you cannot share infrastructure with a noisy neighbor. Our portfolio includes a team renting high performance bare metal servers optimized for quantitative trading workloads. Dedicated machines, predictable performance, provisioned in minutes, without the two year commitment of colocation. The deployment model treats internet connectivity as optional, because in regulated markets, airgapped is not a preference, it is the only option.
Decentralized Video Streaming
Video on the internet is controlled by a handful of platforms that own the content, the distribution, and the relationship with the audience. One of our investments is building a decentralized alternative using the QUIC transport protocol. Metadata lives on channels, the actual video data travels through a peer to peer swarm, and there is no central server that can be shut down or monetized against the creator. Users choose what to watch and who to hear from, the same way they choose which websites to visit. The platform is the protocol, not a middleman.
Gig Worker Owned Economy
The gig economy promised flexibility and delivered rent extraction, where platforms capture the value and workers bear the risk. There is a team in our portfolio building a marketplace where the workers own their data, their reputation, and their relationship with customers. The platform is deliberately constrained with no commercial operators, no surge pricing, and no algorithmic extraction. It operates as infrastructure rather than a toll booth, making the relationship between the worker and the customer the product, not the platform itself.
